Rector's speech at the reception at the Concert Hall

Dear Minister, Dear Everyone,

You who are assembled here are representatives of the society to which Aarhus University belongs. It is in cooperation with you and with your support that Aarhus University continues to be a growing university, and a university which year after year achieves a higher position in the highly competitive international world of higher education. As the University's rector, it gives me pleasure to be able to say that Aarhus University is well equipped to face the future, and that with your cooperation, I am confident that the conditions are in place to ensure that the university will continue to educate bright students and carry out outstanding research, for the benefit of society as a whole. At Aarhus University, we are in no doubt that a large and excellent university such as this is one of the cornerstones of the modern knowledge society.  And we will try, to the best of our ability, to meet the increasing needs of society for knowledge and education – both of the young students and the older ones, who like ourselves are participating in a life-long process of learning.  The University thanks you for the confidence placed in us by you, the city and the country. Thank you very much!

I do not want to take too much of your time now. I just want to wish you heartily welcome. I hope that you will enjoy a glass and that you will have a very pleasant evening, both during the performance and at the reception immediately afterwards. The performance will begin at 19:00, and I would like to ask everyone to find their places in the auditorium before then.

Welcome most heartily!
