8,236 new students at Aarhus University
When Rector Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen gives his speech at Aarhus University’s annual celebration on 10 September, he will do so with the cheerful message that the university has welcomed 8,236 new students this year, including a record number of 6,236 Bachelor’s students.
It has been a record year altogether for Aarhus University, in terms of both applications and admissions. More than 23,000 young people applied for admission to Bachelor’s degree programmes this year, 8,569 of whom listed Aarhus University as their first priority. A total of 6,236 Bachelor’s students have now been admitted and they have commenced their studies. Also welcomed this year were 1,959 new Master’s students who did not complete their Bachelor’s degrees at Aarhus University. A total of 5,000 students commenced their Master’s degree programmes in Aarhus this term.
“As a society and as universities, we should be very satisfied with the enormous interest shown in the university degree programmes by young people today. More than ever before, it’s become clear that knowledge is the way to growth and welfare, and the young people have demonstrated that they’re ready to meet this challenge,” says Rector Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen.
The rector is pleased that two new degree programmes in education and public health at Aarhus University have got off to a flying start, and that the classical science degree programmes have really taken off thanks to active collaboration with the upper secondary schools, with significantly more first priority applications. Sought-after language subjects such as English, German and French have also made progress, at the same time that great interest has been shown in language and culture subjects with a focus on countries with strong economic growth, such as Brazil, Russia, India and China.
All in all, Aarhus University has advanced in virtually all of its more than 200 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. This bodes well for our chances to be able to provide both the business community and society in general with even greater numbers of highly educated graduates,” says Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen.
