Berit Eika received her degree in medicine in 1986 from Aarhus University. In 1996, she gave up her medical career in favour of an academic career in the field of medical education, first as associate professor and later as professor. Dr Eika has played a central role for both undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes at the Faculty of Health Sciences for many years. In 2000, she was instrumental in the establishment of the Centre of Medical Education which is now a respected national and international centre for research and development.
In addition to her medical degree, Dr Eika's qualifications include a Master of Information Technology (MI) with a specialisation in healthcare information technology from Ålborg University in Denmark and Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) from Maastricht University in Holland. She has received numerous awards for her work, including Aarhus University's university education award and Codan/SEB Pension's education award for pioneering work on Danish medical education and research (both in 2007).
In addition, Dr Eika has held a wide range of honorary offices at in the area of education at AU as well as in relation to the development of Danish and Norwegian medical education in general. As vice-dean, Dr Eika will be responsible for improving the quality of existing degree programmes in the health sciences and strengthening the university's efforts in the area of continuing education. In collaboration with the vice-deans of education from the three other main academic areas, Dr Eika will also participate in developing Aarhus University's overall strategic vision for the area of education.
