Jan Ifversen

Jan Ifversen received his doctoral degree from Aarhus University in 1997, and he has been associated with the university ever since. He became associate professor at the Section for European Studies in 2000, and has been head of the Department of History and Area Studies since 2004.
Dr Ifversen's primary research interests include the question of European identity and contemporary European history. He has also done extensive work on the history of ideas and discourse from a European perspective. Cultural exchange and international relations are thus integral aspects of Dr Ifversen's work as scholar and teacher. In the period 2000-2003, Dr Ifversen headed the research project Cultural Encounters and Communities. He has also acted as the spokesperson for the international researcher network History of Political and Social Concepts Group for a number of years.
Dr Ifversen's early work focused on French society. Over time, his research interests have expanded to include the entire continent of Europe. He has participated in several international research collaborations, including numerous international summer schools.
Dr Iversen will draw on this extensive experience with international partnerships in his position as vice-dean of knowledge exchange. He will be responsible for cultivating the Faculty of Arts' international network and relationships in order to increase researcher and student mobility, among other goals. In collaboration with the vice-deans of knowledge exchange from the three other main academic areas, Dr Ifversen will also participate in strengthening AU's profile and external partnerships here in Denmark.
Before Dr Ifversen became head of the Department of History and Areas Studies in 2004, he held the position of director of studies for the Secton for European Studies. In the period 2001-2004, he was also a member of the Faculty Board for the Humanities.
