Jes Madsen

Vice-Dean of Talent Development for Aarhus Faculty of Science and Technology as of 1 March.

Jes Madsen is a member of the staff of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, where he became associate professor in 1991 and full professor in 2006. Since October 2010, he has also served as acting department head. Dr Madsen received his doctoral degree in astronomy from Aarhus University in 1986. As vice-dean of talent development, he will contribute to the development of future researchers at AU.

Dr Madsen has worked with researcher talent development in a range of different contexts. As head of the graduate school at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the period 2002-2005, Dr Madsen exercised a major influence on researcher talent development at Aarhus University. Similarly, the development of research talent at Danish universities played a central role in his work for the Danish Council for Independent Research | Natural Sciences (2003-2009; chairman 2007-2009).

As vice-dean, in addition to participating in the daily management of the faculty, Dr. Madsen will be responsible for developing doctoral programmes at AU and helping to ensure more transparent and attractive career paths from PhD degree to permanent position. This work will take place not only at the Faculty of Science and Technology, but also in cooperation with the other members of the interfaculty forum for talent development whose role will be to develop Aarhus Unversity's strategy for researcher training.

Dr Madsen is a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and is a recipeint of both the Ole Rømer Grant and the Rigmor and Carl Holst-Knudsen Science Award.
