Kurt Nielsen has achieved broad experience in the areas of research-based public sector consultancy and research management through a series of prominent positions at the National Environmental Research Institute (NERI). As director of research for the Department of Lake and Estuarine Ecology (1996-2002) and for the Department of Freshwater Ecology (2002-2008), Kurt Nielsen has played a central role in forming NERI's research profile and in ensuring the qulaity of the institution's knowledge exchange activities in the areas of acquatic ecology and the environmental impact of agriculture.
IN 2008, Kurt Nielsen became deputy director general of NERI, and has since been instrumental in developing the institution's overall research strategy, just as he has been a key figure in the merger with Aarhus University. He has made a significant contribution to establishing NERI's academic programmes, and he has initiated a number of collaborations with the unversity's other research environments in this connection. Kurt Nielsen has also been responsible for NERI's doctoral programmes.
Kurt Nielsen received his Master's degree in biology from the University of Copenhagen in 1982 and has worked with consultancy, environmental monitoring and strategic research throughout his career. As vice-dean of knowledge exchange at Aarhus Faculty of Science and Technology, he will participate in the management of the faculty and will advise the dean on the optimisation of its research-based public sector and industry consultancy services and responsiblities. In addition, he will participate in the overall development of the university's knowledge exchange strategies along with the vide-deans of knowledge exchange from the other three main academic areas.
