Tom Vindbæk Madsen

Vice-Dean of Education for Aarhus Faculty of Science and Technology as of 1 March.

Associate Professor, PhD

Dr Tom Vindbæk Madsen received his PhD in biology from Aarhus University in 1986 and has been a staff member at the Department of Biological Sciences ever since, most recently as associate professor. His primary research interest is botanical ecophysiology with a special focus on the adaptive mechanisms of submerged acquatic plants.

Dr Madsen has been deeply involved in working with his department's academic programmes in addition to his research. Since 2004, he has acted as Director of Studies for Biology, Sport Science, Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine. Before that, he was chairman of the Teaching Committee and chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences Board of Studies. In the period 2001-2007, he was also co-director of the SOAS (School of Acquatic Sciences) graduate school which was based at Aarhus University.

The new vice-dean's will draw on his extensive experience with his faculty's degree programmes in his new position. His responsibilities will include participating in the daily management of the faculty and advising the dean on the development and quality assurance of its degree programmes, while at the same time placing a central role in the interfaculty forum along with the vice-deans of education from the other three main academic areas.

In the period 1992-2001, Dr Madsen also served as a member of the Board of the Department of Biological Sciences and head of section for the Plant Biology Research Group.
