Aarhus University once again increases intake of new students

This year, a total of 7,160 applicants have been offered a study place at Aarhus University. The university therefore expects to admit more Bachelor's degree students than ever before, including 800 new exchange students.

During negotiations for a new partnership agreement between Aarhus University, the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and University of Manitoba, Canada, the participants went on a boat ride in the fjords surrounding Nuuk on Saturday afternoon, followed by a picnic.
Rector Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen, Aarhus Universitet, Director Klaus Nygaard, Greenland Institute for Natural Resources, Nuuk, and Rector David Barnard, University of Manitoba, Canada, met Sunday 8 July to sign the partnership agreement between the three institutions. The agreement strengthens research and educational efforts in Arctic issues.

New research shows that courses in relationship communication for parents-to-be do not have an effect on relationship satisfaction. After the arrival of the baby, couples do not have the energy to use the tools learned in daily life.

The small blue balls contain advanced wireless sensor equipment that can measure temperatures in stacks of agricultural biomass, and tell the farmer if the temperature rises. In this way, the farmer gets an early warning of the start of any rotting.

Thanks to AU research and to development work by the firm of WEBSTECH, farmers can now prevent their stacks of grain, silage and feed from rotting. The secret lies in small balls that measure temperatures within the stack, and communicate the information to the farmer.

It is, among other things, clickers – like this one – that can contribute to create more active teaching. The teacher can ask students questions, which they then answer using their clicker. That way, the teacher can make sure that the students profit as much as possible from the teaching, and easily notice if something needs to be clarified. At the symposium, “Clickers, Peer Instruction and the Inverted Classroom”, leading researchers within the field will share their knowledge about and experiences with Active Learning.
The acknowledge Professor of Physics, Eric Mazur from Harvard University, visits Aarhus University in correlation with the symposium. He has more than 20 years of experience with research in and development of Active Learning in the shape of peer instruction. 
It is possible at the symposium to meet Professor and Dean of Learning and Teaching, Simon Bates, from University of Edinburgh.
