New professor of experimental atomic physics conducts research into colour vision

Lars Henrik Andersen Lars Henrik Andersen has been appointed Professor of Experimental Atomic Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the University of Aarhus.

Colour vision and its molecular background is one of the areas of research that benefits from the experimental atomic physics carried out by Professor Andersen. He actually conducts research into understanding the atomic effects that are found in complex biosystems such as proteins.

By developing new experimental methodologies based on atomic physics tools such as lasers, accelerators and vacuum equipment, Professor Andersen and his colleagues are able to chart any malfunctions in the light-absorbing proteins in the eye that provide humans with the ability to distinguish colours.

Funding for Professor Andersen’s research amounts to DKK 4.1 million, and is provided by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, the Carlsberg Foundation and the Lundbeck Foundation.

Professor Andersen (50) studied at the University of Aarhus and graduated with an MSc in 1981, a PhD in physics in 1985 and a doctoral degree in 1993. He was appointed assistant professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy in 1991, and became associate professor two years later, a position he has held ever since.

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!

Take a short cut

Under the HOT KEY at the top right, you can find links to the most frequently used content on the website, as well as the two new universes for staff and students.

Where can I find it?

Use the new mega dropdowns to get an overview of the website’s content. They open when you run your mouse over the navigation at the top.
