Airport s

  • Aarhus Airport is approximately 40 km north of the city. The airport has regular flights to Copenhagen, Gothenborg, Oslo, London and Stockholm. There are several daily flights to Copenhagen and the flight takes approximately 25 minutes. See departures in the Tourist Guide at: http://midttrafik.dk
  • Billund Airport is located 100 kilometres south of Aarhus and has direct international flight connections to many European cities. The bus ride from Billund to Aarhus takes approximately 1½ hours.

Railways

Aarhus lies at one of the most important railway junctions in Denmark. There are two railway stations in Aarhus, one for passenger transport and another for goods. There are hourly departures to the north, south and west.

Ferries

Current timetables for ferries to Zealand (Aarhus-Odden):

Motorways

Aarhus has direct connections to the great European network of motorways, making it easy to get to most European cities. Hamburg can be reached within roughly four hours. There are also excellent roads to most places in Denmark.

Buses

Midttrafik runs the city’s yellow buses. These are numbered on the front and back. A map of bus routes and a brochure in English can be obtained from from Midttrafik’s offices.

Country bus stops are marked by a blue sign with a white bus.

Cycling

Denmark is an ideal country for cycling. There are not many (very) steep hills and there are many safe cycling paths in the country. Urban conditions for cyclists are constantly being improved. Look out for the special cyclists’ routes ( cykelruter ) and cycle paths ( cykelstier) .

Every month, the police hold an auction on the first Wednesday of the month at: Nellemann & Thomsen, Skanderborgvej 104–106 at 12.00 noon, where unclaimed, abandoned, or stolen cycles are sold. Sales conditions are price plus 46.25% in auction fee.

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!

Take a short cut

Under the HOT KEY at the top right, you can find links to the most frequently used content on the website, as well as the two new universes for staff and students.

Where can I find it?

Use the new mega dropdowns to get an overview of the website’s content. They open when you run your mouse over the navigation at the top.
