Department of Animal Science
The department is constituted by consolidating the subject-related groupings at the current Department of Animal Health and Bioscience (DJF) and incorporating the subject-related grouping in reproductive biology at the current Department of Genetics and Biotechnology (DJF) and the fur animal farm at the same department.
The reproductive biology group has considerable research-related cooperation with research groups at the Department of Animal Health and Bioscience and is therefore amalgamated with these. The new department will gain an even stronger research profile and will to a considerable extent get tasks in relation to the service and consultancy of public authorities and industry. These tasks and the remaining research will best be resolved by using the existing heavy infrastructure facilities in Foulum, where all the groups are physically located at present.
The department will continue to be located in Foulum. The consolidation with the new Department of Agroecology also ensures that the Research Centre Foulum retains the necessary volume to be able to provide PhD and MSc students with modern facilities.
Public sector consultancy
The department makes significant contributions to research-based public sector consultancy in the areas of animal health, environment and bioenergy, organic farming and food science.
Education
The department contributes to some extent in lecturing at BSc and MSc levels, as well as PhD education.
Staffing
Approximately 190–210 members of staff (90–100 academic staff and 100–110 technical and administrative staff).
