Visit of the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation

As previously mentioned in Rectorate News, Mr Helge Sander – Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation – is paying a visit on 31 March. The programme has now been established, and the visit will begin at 10.30 when the minister meets the students in the Lakeside Lecture Theatre. The Student Council is in charge of publicity. The Chairman of the Student Council will welcome the minister, who will then give a brief presentation followed by questions from the students present. At 11.30, Mr Jens Bigum, Chair of the University Board, will officially welcome the minister, who will then hold a meeting with the Research Committee on matters including internationalisation, interaction with the EU, researcher recruitment, etc. The venue is the meeting rooms at the Physics Canteen. The minister will round off his visit with a meeting with the chair of the board, the rectorate and the deans, at which discussions will include the university’s strategy and implementation of the government’s aims in the area of education.

Visit of ranking expert

On 30 April, the University of Aarhus is holding an all-day workshop with Ellen Hazelkorn, who is Dean of the Faculty of the Applied Arts at the Dublin Institute of Technology. She has also studied the importance of rankings in the university world for the OECD’s Programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education (IMHE). During the morning session, Ellen Hazelkorn will present her research results, and in the afternoon, she will take part in a specific discussion of the ranking work undertaken by the University of Aarhus. In addition to the rectorate, a circle will be invited consisting of deans, vice-deans and representatives from Aarhus Hospital as well as research foundations. The University of Aarhus collaborates with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) on rankings, and representatives from SDU will be invited to the first part of the workshop. Approximately 45 people altogether have been invited.

Happy Easter

The rectorate would like to wish all members of staff a pleasant Easter holiday. Rectorate News will not be published on Tuesday following Easter.
