Rector joins EUA Board

At a meeting in Barcelona last week, Rector Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen was elected to the Board of the European University Association (EUA). The appointment is valid for four years. It is very satisfying that the University of Aarhus has such an opportunity to directly influence European development in the university field.

Monday was busy with meetings of the rectorate, the minister and the deans

The three sub-meetings (for the students, the Research Committee and the management) with Mr Helge Sander, the Danish Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, were successful with constructive dialogue throughout.

Campus Plan 2008–2028

Dean Erik Meineche Schmidt presented the meeting of the deans with a status report of the work on a plan describing the university’s need for extended premises in the Aarhus area up until 2028. This plan is being drawn up in collaboration with the Danish University and Property Agency and the Municipality of Aarhus, and will be submitted to the Danish Parliament’s Finance Committee. The plan points out that the University of Aarhus also needs extended premises for activities outside Aarhus. The plan will be considered by the Board on 28 April, after which it will be made available on the university’s web site.

Strategy work of the main academic areas

The deans and directors of the 9 main academic areas will take it in turns at forthcoming meetings of the deans to share their experience by giving a report of progress on drawing up strategies for the main academic areas. Bodil Due (Faculty of Humanities) initiated this with the first status report. The strategies for the main academic areas are available (in Danish only) at http://www.au.dk/da/strategi/hovedomraaderne.

Task force regarding the authorities

By October at the latest, a task force will present a proposal regarding the best possible way of supporting aims and objectives in the area of the authorities. Each main academic area can nominate one representative. The rectorate will nominate a chairperson.

Research infrastructure pool

This subject has previously been mentioned in the newsletter. A timetable has now been sent to the main academic areas. Applications must be submitted from the University of Aarhus by 14 May. Until this date, drafts will be checked for quality, discussed and finalised.
