Meetings every 6 months with the rectorate and the main academic areas
At least once every six months, the rectorate will hold a meeting with the management of each main academic area.A two-hour meeting will be held with each main academic area on 13 and 22 May.Topics for the May meetings are:accounts for 2007, Q1 report for 2008, status regarding the main academic areas’ strategy work, etc.Representing the main academic areas are the deans, top administration managers and relevant finance staff.
Central government budget
The central government budget is expected to be adopted this week. The University of Aarhus then expects the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to announce to the universities the implications of the budget. It is especially important that the cuts predicted in the field of engineering at AU-IBT (Institute of Business and Technology, University of Aarhus) are reimbursed. If not, AU-IBT’s engineering degree programmes will be disadvantaged compared with engineering degree programmes that do not fall within the auspices of the university. This will be contradictory to promises made in connection with the merger between AU-IBT and the University of Aarhus (and between the Odense University College of Engineering and the University of Southern Denmark). Also anticipated in the budget is the result for the universities of the proposed 1% compulsory savings in 2008.These savings are expected to be reimbursed to the universities in 2009.
Africa Commission
As previously announced in a media release from the University of Aarhus, Rector Lauritz B.Holm-Nielsen is a member of the government’s Africa Commission. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday 16 April. Read the media release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark here.
