Annual celebration on 12 September
The university celebrates its 80th anniversary on 11 September 2008, and the event will be marked in the appropriate manner on Friday 12 September. The usual celebration for guests, participants, working partners, etc. will be held during the afternoon in the Main Hall in Aarhus. The rector is very pleased that HM Queen Margrethe of Denmark and HRH the Prince Consort have chosen to assign high priority to attending. The event will continue in the evening in the Concert Hall Aarhus. Students will mark the anniversary with the annual sports day and subsequent celebration in the University Park with well-known bands and a large open stage. More details about both events to follow.

As mentioned in a previous edition of this newsletter, Rector Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen has been appointed as a member of the government’s Africa Commission. Remember the rector’s summer speech and reception on Thursday 19 June
As previously stated, this event takes place at 14.00 in the Lakeside Lecture Theatres in Aarhus. The summer speech will be streamed and you can follow it on the university’s web site. Provided it is possible to take a break from the pressure of work for an hour or two, the rectorate encourages all members of staff to turn up or follow the event on the web site. See the invitation (in Danish only) here.
Environment Plan for the University of Aarhus
The Central Buildings Department has drawn up a debate presentation for the Environment Plan for the University of Aarhus 2008–2012. The aim is that the university’s conduct must be as environmentally responsible as possible. The presentation will be made at the meeting held by the deans on 16 June. The next step is for the main academic areas to discuss the presentation, make comments on it, and take every experience into account. After the round of hearings, the rectorate and circle of deans will make a decision regarding how the continued work should be planned.
