Aarhus University’s annual celebration and 80th anniversary
There will be royal guests, artistic interludes, honorary awards and festive activities on Friday 12 September 2008, when Aarhus University celebrates both its founding and its 80th anniversary.
As dictated by tradition, the annual celebration consists of a ceremony in the university’s Main Hall ( see map ) in the afternoon and an evening event at the Concert Hall Aarhus. It is our pleasure this year to be able to welcome Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, who will take part in the anniversary ceremony in the Main Hall, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, who will also attend the evening event.
A great deal of interest has been shown in celebrating the university’s annual festivity and anniversary. This means that 500 guests will attend the ceremony in the Main Hall, almost 1,000 people will celebrate their jubilees in academic arrangements at the faculties, and approximately 2,400 guests will attend the evening function in the Concert Hall.
Unfortunately, it has not been possible to accommodate all the employees who wanted to participate. Seats were allocated on a first come, first served basis. We would therefore like to point out that the ceremony in the Main Hall can be followed via a video transmission on www.au.dk from 13.30. This is expected to finish at about 15.45. See the programme for the day (in Danish only) here.
For further information about the annual celebration, please contact Communication Officer Lykke Ankersen on +45 8942 2345, mobile +45 2899 2345, e-mail la@adm.au.dk or Communication Officer Charlotte Boel on +45 8942 2344, e-mail cbo@adm.au.dk
Design line
When Aarhus University celebrates its 80th anniversary on Friday, it will also present its new visual identity. The 1508 A/S design agency has designed a new logo that – combined with the university’s signature, its well-known seal, a colour scale and two special fonts – is one of the basic elements in the new visual identity. The new identity will be distributed in all media, including stationery design, printed matter, web pages, advertisements and merchandise, etc.
In connection with the annual celebration, the new visual identity will be presented in a poster exhibition at the Museum of Ancient Art, just as all material for the annual celebration will be made in the new design. Guests will also be given a copy of the new 0809 profile brochure, also prepared in the new design.
During the week beginning 15 September, the Communication Office will be publishing a folder about the new identity to all members of staff. From 12 September to 16 October, it will also be possible to see the new identity in a poster exhibition at the Museum of Ancient Art. Distributing the new visual identity will take place during the coming months.

Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries visits Aarhus University
Eva Kjer Hansen, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, visited Aarhus University yesterday. The occasion was an informal meeting between the minister and AU’s chair of the Board, the rectorate and the dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (DJF).
Important points on the agenda were collaboration regarding research-based advice to the authorities and the parameters for continued research work.
The Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and Aarhus University currently have a collaboration agreement that means AU receives approximately DKK 280 million per year for research-based advice to the authorities in the area of agriculture. In the government budget proposal on 26 August, the ground was prepared for an increase in this amount to almost DKK 350 million per year in 2009. This increase is due to a correction for renting DJF’s buildings. Read more in the appendix: Status of the research-based advice to the authorities (available in PDF format in Danish only).
At the meeting, the Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries expressed great satisfaction with the present collaboration, especially with DJF and Aarhus University. She was positive about extending the current collaboration. In this connection, she was very keen to get the food area made a significant part of the globalisation pool.
