Good position in Times Higher Education ranking
As stated in the media release issued by AU before the weekend, Aarhus University achieved a good position as number 81 in the Times Higher Education’s list of the world’s best universities. This is an improvement compared with its position as number 114 in 2007. AU is thus listed in the top 100 in both the THE – QS and Shanghai rankings.

Collaboration with VIA
A new collaboration agreement between Aarhus University and VIA University College will strengthen programmes of higher education in the Central Denmark Region. The agreement runs until the end of 2012 and includes ordinary education programmes; continuing and further education; PhD programmes; tasks involving knowledge sharing, research and development; and counselling potential students. The agreement does not cover a new degree programme for teachers involving universities and university colleges, as the government and other parties involved in the accord have not yet reached agreement regarding the guidelines for offering such a programme.

Fine efforts at the Paralympic Games in Beijing
A previous edition of the newsletter mentioned the two gold medallists in sailing (49er) at the Olympic Games in Beijing. We would also like to express our heartiest congratulations to AU’s participants in the Paralympic Games in Beijing. The latest issue of AU-gustus tells us that Kamilla Ryding (a political science student) won a bronze medal in goalball. It also says that Mikael Krarup Andersen (a law student) got an honourable fourth place and set a personal record in the 1500-metre track event for visually impaired competitors.
