EU Commission's ECTS label in the bag

Aarhus University has now gained well-deserved international recognition for fulfilling the aims and objectives relating to European collaboration in the field of education. Since 2007, a considerable number of members of staff in the main academic areas and the university administration have been working intensively on adapting all the offers of degree programmes to meet European standards. It is therefore very gratifying that Aarhus University is among the small group of European universities that were awarded the EU Commission’s ECTS label on 11 June.

This European seal of quality is awarded for a period of four years from application, based on a lengthy screening process that first includes approval and recommendation from CIRIUS – the Danish national authority responsible for the internationalisation of education and training – and subsequently the EU Commission’s final assessment and approval.

Prestigious Coimbra award to AU graduate

Markus Davidsen, MA (Theology) – a PhD student at Aarhus University – has been selected as this year’s winner of a prestigious European student recognition, the 2009 Arenberg-Coimbra Group Prize.

The Coimbra Group is an association of 38 prominent universities outside the European capitals, such as the UK universities in Cambridge and Oxford, and Aarhus University, the only representative in Denmark.

A number of the Coimbra Group’s member universities have combined forces in a student exchange network, where students can study at other universities without having to pay fees. In connection with his Master’s degree, Markus Davidsen studied at Heidelberg University, Germany, a member of the Coimbra Group.

Every year, all the exchange students who have spent a period studying at one of the Coimbra Group’s member universities abroad can apply to be considered for the award. The prize will be presented on 4 June in Geneva, in connection with the Coimbra Group’s AGM.
