News from the Vice-Chancellor's Office No. 23/2009

The university takes a new turn in its profiling efforts

Distinctive pink, blue and green posters with subtle messages will draw attention to Aarhus University in a nationwide profiling campaign. As a follow-up to the posters, which will be featured at bus stops and in newspaper and web ads, a series of lectures will be held in different parts of Denmark. These will be based on the campaign’s simple and dramatic messages – such as “You have a point of view until you blog a new one”.

Replacing the profile newspaper
The objective of the campaign is that the ads will make Aarhus University even more prominent, and get interested people to visit the website or attend the lectures to find out more about the university. This year, the campaign replaces the profile newspaper issued by the university last year and the year before.

The target group is the 40 to 55-year-olds who – as far as the majority are concerned – have contact with young people about to choose their education within the foreseeable future.

New website
In connection with this campaign, Aarhus University is launching a new website – www.viden.au.dk – which will gather information about some of the university’s publicly accessible activities. You can read more about the background, content and messages in the 2009 profile campaign at Atrium – the staff portal. Here you can also download campaign posters and send proposals for inclusions in the new website.

Also on Facebook
In conjunction with the campaign, the university has created a page on Facebook. News, pictures and videos will be regularly added here, as well as notices of special events, etc. You can sign up for the Aarhus University Facebook Group via this link: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/Arhus-Denmark/Aarhus-Universitet/89338779763

The profile campaign runs from 20 June to 5 July.

Two articles about the campaign were also featured in number 11 of the university’s newspaper CAMPUS . These are available (in Danish only) at www.au.dk/campus

Vice-Chancellor and staff discuss future challenges on 17 June at 14.00

The summer holidays are approaching and the time has come to take stock of a spring term that has been exciting, but also very hectic. The Vice-Chancellor’s Office has therefore invited all staff to the annual summer event in the Lakeside Lecture Theatres in Aarhus, where the vice-chancellor will speak about the university evaluation, with a focus on the section about degrees of freedom and the recently completed assessment of the psychological workplace environment (APV).

Following this, the debate will be opened with staff reactions to the speech and suggestions regarding the challenges of the future. Come along and take the opportunity to have your say. As mentioned in a previous newsletter, the event will be transmitted via www.au.dk.

Programme for the event
14.00–14.25: Vice-Chancellor’s summer speech
14.25–15.00: Debate
The two AU researchers Stefan Iversen (Humanities) and Helle Prætorius (Health Sciences) will launch the subsequent debate with short presentations and questions addressed to the vice-chancellor. Note that you can send your questions during the debate either from the auditorium or via a text message (SMS) to 2366 8505.
Chair: Head of Press Affairs Anders Correll
15.00–16.00: Light buffet in the foyer, with an opportunity to mix with your colleagues and wish each other a good summer

Aarhus University given the seal of quality in Brussels

Last week, Aarhus University received visible proof of the EU’s ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) approval when, on behalf of the university, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Nina Smith was presented with the certificate and a statuette by Commissioner Jan Figel, who was impressed by the quality displayed by Aarhus University in implementing the ECTS system.

The exclusive position among 22 other universities did not come out of thin air. Since 2006, the university has worked intensively at organising its offer of degree programmes in compliance with European standards and EU approval. The Vice-Chancellor’s Office would like to thank the numerous members of staff in both the main academic areas and the administration, whose perseverance made it possible to receive the EU’s ECTS approval.
