Students active at meeting on Tomorrow's AU

The senior management group focused on the aspects of the Tomorrow's AU vision of particular relevance for students at the open meeting for students on 28 March. The meeting was arranged in cooperation with the Student Council.

Approximately fifty students participated in the meeting. After the presentation, students had an opportunity to ask questions. Students focused on issues such as study environment, the boundaries between fields of study, and the procedure for deciding on the Danish and English names of the departments.

New visions for European universities

Between 13 and 15 April, university professionals from all over Europe will gather at Aarhus University for the European University Association (EUA) 10th anniversary conference. The theme of this year's conference is "Investing Today in Talent for Tomorrow". Participants in the conference will exchange and develop ideas on how universities can help European research realise its full potential and attract the most talented young researchers from the rest of the world.

Europe as a knowledge region is experiencing extremely strong competition, and the EUA was established ten years ago in order to provide a shared European forum for the development of the region's research, education, knowledge exchange and talent development activities. The EUA has 850 members from 46 countries.

Rector Holm-Nielsen, who has worked to promote the internationalisation of Aarhus University since his appointment, was elected to the EUA Board in 2008. He is now a candidate for the position of chairman. The other candidate for the position is Portuguese Maria Helena Nazaré, and the election will take place on Thursday 14 April.

Before the EUA anniversary conference, the EUA Council for Doctoral Education will also hold a conference at Aarhus University.

Digital exams on the way

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has concluded a contract with Netcompany A/S to develop an IT system which will bring the administration of written exams up to date while at the same time ensuring that students are only able to access permitted reference materials. The system will be tested in a pilot project at AU in autumn 2011. Aarhus University was named pilot university in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation's project on the digitalisation of written exams administered at a specific location (stedprøver). Students currently use paper and pen to complete these exams.
