7 AU researchers receive Elite Research Prize honours

Robert A. Fenton, professor at the Department of Biomedicine, and Søren Fournais, professor at the Department of Mathematics, both of AU, are two of the five elite researchers who received the 2018 Elite Research Prize. They received their awards from the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science at a ceremony held on Thursday, 1 March.

Twenty Elite Research Travel Grants were also awarded to promising researchers at the conference. Five of these went to PhD students from Aarhus University.

Stricter rules on personal data use 

The planned general data protection regulation (GDPR) will tighten the rule on the handling and storage of personal data. Targeted efforts are underway to ensure that AU can comply with the rules and respond to all requests. Regular information will be provided on the stricter rules concerning the use of personal data.

Find information on potential strike action at AU

It appears that the likelihood of a general strike is increasing – a strike which might apply to some employees at Aarhus University. 

AU has set up a page presenting information on the collective agreement negotiations for 2018 (OK18). This page will be updated regularly as the OK18 negotiations develop.

Institutional accreditation: AU applies again

Aarhus University has now submitted a supplementary self-evaluation report to the Danish Accreditation Institution. With this, an important step has been taken towards reapplication for institutional accreditation.

Final registration deadline for Edu-IT kick-off

The opportunity for inspiration will be presented by both colleagues and external speakers when Aarhus University officially launches its educational IT initiative.

Lecturers from all four faculties will be giving brief "speed lectures" on their personal experiences of involving digital technologies in their teaching. This will include looking at new feedback tools at ST, multimedia portfolios at Health and a variety of flipped classroom methods.

The Edu-IT initiative will be launched in Stakladen at 11:30-16:30 on Tuesday, 13 March.

There are still some places left, but registration must be completed by 5 March. 

New model for appointment of external board members submitted for consultation

The board is now affiliated with the proposal for the model that will form a basis going forward for appointment of new external board members to the Aarhus University Board. The proposal has now been submitted for internal consultation.

Semper Ardens grant for research into disruption and globalisation

The Carlsberg Foundation has granted DKK 15 million to a new Semper Ardens research project at Aarhus BSS. This project aims to examine the consequences for companies, staff and society when there are shifts in the markets involving robots, disruption and globalisation. This project gathers together researchers at the new FIND research centre (Firms and INdustry Dynamics), which is headed by Professor Philipp Schröder, Department of Economics and Business Economics.

Young people flock to Aarhus to choose degree programmes

“U-days” events took place all over the city between 1 and 3 March, attracting 11,000 young people to Aarhus. The aim of this event is to help young people choose the right degree programmes.
