Margareta Wallin Peterson has been Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, since 2004. Her special areas of responsibility are external relations and innovation work.

Dr Peterson is Professor of Zoophysiology and has been Deputy Head of the Department of Zoology and both Vice-Dean and Pro-Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Gothenburg. Her research field is within cell and molecular biology, and she has a special interest in the ability of animals to change skin colour. Dr Peterson has extensive experience in teaching, and in addition to a position as Director of Studies, she has been actively involved in an educational development project, and was awarded the university’s first Pedagogiska lagpris (pedagogical team prize) in 1996.

During the period 2002–2008, Dr Peterson was Deputy Chair of the university’s Council for Identity and Image. She headed the work involved in the University of Gothenburg’s Strategic Plan 2007–2010, and is currently responsible for the university’s Research and Development Strategy 2009–2012. Since autumn 2009, she has been in charge of the university’s work in revising the Research and Development Strategy 2011–2012, as well as work on the strategy document University of Gothenburg 2020.
