Margareta Wallin Peterson is a professor at Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap. 

From 2004-2016, Margareta Wallin Peterson was Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice Rector of the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Her special areas of responsibility were external relations and innovation work.

Dr Peterson is Professor of Zoophysiology and has been Deputy Head of the Department of Zoology and both Vice-Dean and Pro-Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Gothenburg. Her research field is within cell and molecular biology, and she has a special interest in the ability of animals to change skin colour. Dr Peterson has extensive experience in teaching, and in addition to a position as Director of Studies, she has been actively involved in an educational development project, and was awarded the university’s first Pedagogiska lagpris (pedagogical team prize) in 1996.

During the period 2002–2008, Dr Peterson was Deputy Chair of the university’s Council for Identity and Image. She headed the work involved in the University of Gothenburg’s Strategic Plan 2007–2010, the university’s Research and Development Strategy 2009–2012, the Research and Development Strategy 2011–2012, as well as work on the strategy document (2013-2020) 'Vision 2020'. During the period 2013-2015 she has led the development of Vision 2020-Medicinareberget.
