Technician Position for Research and Teaching in Microbial Biotechnology 958611

We are currently seeking a laboratory technician to fulfill an open position at the Section for Biological and Chemical Engineering, Department of Engineering, Aarhus University.
The working hours are 37 hours per week, and the place of work is Incuba Science Park, Gustav Wieds Vej 10, 8000 Aarhus C.
The position is available as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
The technician’s main responsibility is to support research and teaching on microbial biotechnology and assist in organizing and maintaining a well-functioning environment for working with a broad range of microorganisms. Additional tasks for the technician may vary depending on research projects. However, the responsibilities for this position include:
  • Teaching laboratory courses on biotechnology.
  • Maintaining equipment and facilities necessary for biological engineering and testing. 
  • Ordering and registering chemicals, processing payments, and handling communication related to lab activities.
  • Assisting researchers in genetic engineering, fermentation, purifications, and biological screening.
  • Ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • Self-motivated and committed with enthusiasm and interests in the work areas.
  • Fluent in Danish and strong in English and capable of communicating with domestic and international staffs.
  • Independent and capable of organizing and prioritizing work assignments and work hours.
  • Some knowledge or the ability to learn about of genetic manipulations, growing and maintaining a broad range of microorganisms, and fermentation in both flasks and fermenters. Testing antimicrobial activities and other activity test will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations in particular work with classified biological entities and GMO.
Our emphasis will be on the candidate’s ability and desire to contribute to an expanding research section. You will be working closely together with a few of faculty members, as well as researchers, students, and other laboratory technicians.
