The Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience – DANDRITE is the Danish node of the Nordic-EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. We have an opening for a group leader position in Molecular and Translational Neuroscience.

Nordic-EMBL Partnership and DANDRITE

The Nordic-EMBL Partnership is a joint venture between the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the Universities of Helsinki/Finland, Oslo/Norway, Umeå/Sweden and Aarhus/Denmark. The partnership provides joint access to research infrastructure, including databases, facilities and instrumentation, as well as to clinical materials and networks and training activities. The four laboratories of the partnership (FIMM/Helsinki, NCMM/Oslo, MIMS/Umeå, and DANDRITE/Aarhus) adhere to the EMBL model for research organisation and evaluation.

DANDRITE is established with support from the Lundbeck Foundation at Aarhus University. The research scope is on molecular mechanisms underlying intra- and intercellular signaling networks that govern neuronal functionality and circuits and how these mechanisms define behaviour and are altered in neurological and psychiatric disorders.

DANDRITE is embedded in a vibrant NeuroCampus research community at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital and encompasses internationally leading research activities in genetics, molecular and clinical medicine, bioimaging, transgenic animal models, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology and nanoscience, and with long-standing traditions in membrane proteins and neuroscience.
DANDRITE encompasses a thriving, international research community with many PhD students and postdocs and with well-established research infrastructure and support. The current seven groups cover a broad range of neuroscience, including structural biology and electrophysiology of membrane transporters, channels- and receptors (Prof. Poul Nissen), molecular cell biology of intracellular signaling networks involved in Parkinson disease and dementia (Prof. Poul Henning Jensen), embryonic and reprogrammed stem cells in Parkinson disease (Group leader Mark Denham), molecular cell biology, neuronal circuits and behavior in Drosophila (Group leader Anne von Philipsborn), receptor networks and signaling of neurotrophic factors studied in transgenic animal models (Prof. Anders Nykjær), structure, function and development of neural circuits in visual system (Group leader Keisuke Yonehara), and neuronal circuits and molecular networks of effort based decision-making (Group leader Duda Kvitsiani). Furthermore, affiliated DANDRITE team leaders and DANDRITE associate investigators provide a broad platform in neuroscience.

The group leader position
In this call DANDRITE seeks a group leader in neuroscience that complements the expertise and research programs of the current seven groups. Research programs can for example investigate protein-protein interaction networks and cell biology underlying intra- or intercellular interactions and circuits in brain. The group leader is expected to complement on-going research as well as to strengthen synergies of DANDRITE research.

To qualify for a group leader position, the candidate should have a PhD degree or equivalent and an appropriate level of postdoctoral training. Applicants should present a strong track record of relevance (but not necessarily limited) to neuroscience, and an independent research proposal that demonstrates the potential to identify compelling new questions and ideas in neuroscience to be pursued at DANDRITE. Particular weight will be given to scientific proficiency. We will consider candidates at a level that corresponds to ERC starting grants.

The DANDRITE group leaders are appointed for five years with a possible extension for a maximum nine years total depending on review. Candidates are offered a competitive start package of 2 million EURO for the first 5 years and further funding can be expected from national and international funding bodies. Specific support programs will be available to stimulate collaborations with other neuroscience communities in Denmark and for capital investments on equipment. New group leaders will be offered state-of-the-art laboratory facilities embedded in existing research infrastructures for neuroscience at all levels ranging from structure and function of molecules to high-content imaging and behavioral studies in advanced, transgenic models.

•    CV with a complete list of publications, and a list of invited presentations at international meetings. The five most significant papers should be highlighted in a separate list
•    Short research plan (max 5 pages) including also a summary of expected translational impact and potential in neuroscience.

Formalities and salary range
The DANDRITE group leaders will be employed according to Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and will be employed either as assistant- or associate professor depending on qualifications.
Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
