Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Quaternary Terrestrial Palaeoecology 918702

The Department of Geoscience, Aarhus University, Denmark invites applications for a position in Quaternary Terrestrial Palaeoecology. The position is open at Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor, depending on the qualifications of the applicants.

Department of Geoscience
The Department of Geoscience has a strong research profile spanning a broad range of geological and geophysical disciplines including the study of Quaternary environmental change and palaeoclimatology represented by several professors and associate professors, as well as a number of post-doctoral fellows and Ph.D. students. The department is well equipped for Quaternary research and teaching with infrastructure including sedimentological, micropalaeontological and geochemical laboratories, HF-laboratory, a class 100 metal-free clean-lab. including a LA-ICP-MS system, XRF core scanner, a series of sediment corers, microscopes, OSL and TCN dating facilities, and modern pollen reference collections. The Department of Geoscience has strong links to other departments at Aarhus University, including the Department of Archaeology, the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Biology.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate must demonstrate interdisciplinary research in Quaternary terrestrial palaeoecology utilizing multi-proxies from biogenic and sedimentary archives. A scientist with interest in quantitative analyses of depositional systems recording environmental and climatic change such as e.g. lacustrine archives will be preferred. Experience with analysis of pollen successions and geochemical/isotopic proxies is advantageous.

Depending on level, the candidate is expected to have a strong international research standing and a broad multidisciplinary research network. The scientific profile should be reflected in relevant publications in prominent international peer-reviewed journals. Proven ability to attract external research funding is expected.

The candidate will expand research collaborations at the highest international level following his/her scientific interests and priorities, and will attract external funding for research from national and international sources. Finally, the candidate is expected to play an active role in the Department’s administration and develop links to other research clusters here.

Documented teaching skills are required. The appointee is expected to develop and teach courses and supervise at all academic levels. Importantly, in addition to teaching at the Department of Geoscience, the appointee will coordinate and contribute to the new geoarchaeology teaching program at the Department of Archaeology. This unique interdisciplinary research and teaching cooperation involves several staff from Geoscience and Physics and Astronomy.

This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
