Two Poul Due Jensen Assistant Professorships in Water Technology at Aarhus University 961772

Aarhus University Centre for Water Technology (WATEC) at Aarhus University is looking for assistant professors within the area of water technology as described below. The announcement covers a wide array of water technologies and the successful candidates will be chosen on the basis of exceptional personal qualifications and exceptional research ideas within one of the fields. Proposed research projects that bridges two or more of the research areas listed below are also welcome. It is very attractive 4 years positions, or alternatively tenure track positions (depending on the qualifications of the candidate) in a highly dynamic research environment. The positions are enabled by generous funding from the Poul Due Jensen Foundation, which also supplies funding for equipment, consumables and travel (up to Euro 40.000 per year, dependent on budgets made by candidates invited for interview).

It should be noticed that it is possible also to apply for postdoc positions (separate announcement with different requirements) within the same area, and that it is possible to send applications for both types of position.

The positions are available from July 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

WATEC is a centre encompassing research fields with in the areas of:

• Mapping and modelling of groundwater resources
• Wastewater treatment solutions
• Removal of micro-contaminants in water including innovative methods for determination
• Constructed wetland treatment technologies
• Restoration of lakes and streams
• Modelling of the whole water cycle and its biological components
• Sensor development.

Successful candidates

You are expected to:

• present plans for relevant high-impact research within the topics (in a broad sense)     covered by WATEC in the application
• conduct research at the highest international level
• contribute to relevant educational courses
• establish synergies between your own research and other related research activities to secure the needed interdisciplinary approaches
• apply for additional funding such as ERC Starting Grants.

Qualifications

The following professional and personal qualifications are required:
• PhD degree or equivalent qualifications
• Documented high-level research qualifications
• Experience in communication of research in a wide context
• Ability to strengthen national and international cooperation within the research area
• Proficiency in English.

Science and Technology Tenure Track

Aarhus University offers talented scientists from around the world attractive career perspectives via the Science and Technology Tenure Track Programme. Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of six years with the prospect of performance-based advancement to a tenured Associate Professorship.


The aim of the Science and Technology Tenure Track Programme is to:
- attract outstanding talented individuals that are competitive at an international level
- to promote the early development of independent research success early in the career of scientists
- to create transparency in the academic career path

As part of the tenure track position, the candidate is offered:
- access to research infrastructure
- capability development, including postgraduate teacher training
- a mentoring programme
- support to develop scientific networks and to secure interdisciplinary research at the highest level

As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Programme, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate after three years, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. The final tenure review is conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor/Senior Researcher at Aarhus University.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
