Postdoc Position in Computational Chemistry of the NMDA receptor Aarhus University, Denmark 982814

The Biomodellling group at Aarhus University (http://chem.au.dk/en/research/research-areas/theoreticalchemistry/biomodelling/) is seeking applications for a 2-year senior postdoc position in the field of membrane protein modelling. Signaling in the brain is in large parts mediated by membrane proteins.

The aim of this project is to understand how some of these proteins function based on their signaling mechanism, internal protein dynamics and structure. Additionally, understanding how ligand binding affects this process is also of great interest. Using high-performance computing the postdoc will study the ionotropic glutamate receptor, NMDAR. The position includes the use of a wide range of data analysis and modelling tools, as well as communicating with both academic and industrial partners attached to the project.

We are looking for a highly motivated, self-starting and well-organized scientist. Duties on top of own research for this position includes supervision of students, aiding in the smooth running of the group as well as grant writing and occasional teaching. Regular travel to the US to meet with an industrial partner is also required. Outside of a strong motivation to work with membrane protein modelling, we expect the following qualifications from the candidate.

-PhD in Computational Chemistry, Biology or related field.
-Minimum of 2 years of postdoc experience preferred.
-Extensive experience with molecular dynamics simulations is essential, with additional experience with homology modelling and the study of large membrane proteins preferred. Knowledge of the Schrodinger software Maestro is advantageous.
-Experience in grant writing a plus and previous experience in industrial collaborations and maintaining international collaboration is highly beneficial.
-Documented experience with glutamate receptor modelling is highly advantageous
-Strong publication record expected.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
