Two post-doctoral positions on the role of GABAergic neurons on memory Aarhus University, Denmark (Dr Marco Capogna)

We are seeking to recruit two independent post-doctoral fellows expert in in vitro or in vivo electrophysiology and optogenetics in order to study the behavioral role of “non-classical GABAergic neuron types” in the amygdala and hippocampus of rodents. Electrophysiological or imaging approaches will be combined with behavioral assessment of memory function to understand the role of specific GABAergic neuron types in memory storage, consolidation and retrieval.

One postdoctoral position for Project 1 will be employed in the lab of Marco Capogna at the Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, Denmark. This is a stimulating, highly interdisciplinary and international environment as part of the Aarhus Neurocampus and DANDRITE (http://dandrite.au.dk). The project is funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark for three years from November 2018. The specific aim of the project is to make significant discoveries towards the understanding of the role of GABAergic neuron diversity in memory and emotional behaviors.

Another postdoctoral position for Project 2 will be also based in the lab of Prof. Marco Capogna at Aarhus University, Denmark, and embedded with the new Center for Proteins in Memory (http://promemo.au.dk) at Aarhus University. The position is funded by The Danish National Research Foundation and is initially for two years with the possibility of extension (up to six years). Starting date for this position is flexible and it could be from October 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The specific aim of the project is to progress our understanding of memory proteins and their role on synaptic plasticity and behavior, and to elucidate the role of synaptic plasticity proteins at mammalian amygdala networks.

The applicants will perform cell electrophysiological/imaging/optogenetic experiments in rodent amygdala and emotional-related circuits (see some previous group’s relevant papers: Bienvenu et al, Neuron, 2012; Bazelot et al, Neuron, 2015; Capogna, Curr Opinion Neurobiol, 2014; Bocchio et al, Neuron, 2017). The ideal candidate has experience in electrophysiology and optogenetics in vivo and/or in vitro. A PhD degree in Neuroscience or related subjects is required. The successful applicant is expected to be able to manage the project, develop novel technical approaches, conduct firm, kind and thorough supervision and be a good team player.

Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
