Courses during daytime

Courses during daytime (Tomplads-ordningen) at the Aarhus University are vacant positions at courses offered by a department during a term. Normally, applicants cannot expect to be accepted without a good working knowledge of the Danish language. Furthermore, there may be specific course requirements, (e.g. language qualifications, a certain level of mathematics etc.). For specific course requirements applicants are advised to contact the student counsellor of the relevant department.  Students attend the courses and take the examinations on equal terms with full-time students.

Courses in English and other languages

You will find courses held in English or in other languages by searching the Course Catalogue or the Study Guide.

Information about courses

Once you have chosen the courses you wish to attend, please contact the student counsellor (or the secretary) at the department for further information, a course description handbook and academic regulations. Applications should be made well in advance of the academic term (in the beginning of January with respect to courses during the spring term and in June as to courses in the autumn term).

How to apply

The application form must include an exact specification of the courses you wish to study. You should fill in an application form for each department. If you apply for admission to more than one course within the same department – several courses at the Institute of History and Area Studies, for example – you should only fill in one application form. However, if you wish to study at both the Institute of History and Area Studies and at the Faculty of Theology, for example, you must fill in two application forms.

Application forms must be submitted to the study committee of the department concerned.

Application forms can be obtained from the student counsellor at the relevant department, the university studies office at the relevant faculty or at:
www.au.dk/evu/singlesubject.pdf

Closing dates for applications for the autumn term:

All Faculties: June 15th .

Closing dates for applications for the spring term:

All Faculties: January 3th .

If your application is received after the closing date, you cannot be certain to receive an answer before the beginning of the new term. For admission of new students after the closing date, please contact the student counsellor at the relevant department for more information.

Answer to the application

If your application is received in due time, you will receive a written response in February (in spring term when the academic term begins the 1st of February), or in September (in autumn term when the academic term begins the 1st of September).

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!

Take a short cut

Under the HOT KEY at the top right, you can find links to the most frequently used content on the website, as well as the two new universes for staff and students.

Where can I find it?

Use the new mega dropdowns to get an overview of the website’s content. They open when you run your mouse over the navigation at the top.
