Moving in

Welcome

We are happy to welcome you to Aarhus University. One of the first things to do in Aarhus is to find your accommodation. If you applied for accommodation through the International Centre you can come and collect your key here.

First you need to find out whether you have been allocated a room in a student residence or shared facilities house or if you are going to sublet a room. Information regarding how to pick up your key and how to pay differ.

Student residences and shared facilities houses

When does your lease start?

You can find out when your lease starts if you log into your self service account. Your leasing contract starts on the day stated there, and normally you can pick up your key from that date (or any day hereafter.) If it happens that your lease starts on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, you can't pick up your key until the first weekday hereafter. You need to arrange and pay for short term accommodation until then yourself.

Picking up your key

You can pick up your key and leasing contract at the International Centre, Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 4, 8000 Århus C. Office hours weekdays 10am-2pm. If you arrive outside office hours you need to arrange short term accommodation yourself.

Some students have a mentor. You can ask your mentor to pick up your key on your behalf before your arrival. Please note that neither you nor your mentor can pick up your key before your lease actually starts.

What to do when moving in?

Students living in residences or shared-facilities houses should fill in the inspection report immediately after they have moved in. As this might determine how much of your deposit you will get back, you are asked to complete the report on your first day. Complaints should immediately be addressed to the janitor or the landlord. If you notice any problems with the furniture please contact housing@adm.au.dk.

Sub-letting

You can't pick up your key at the International Centre. It is your responsibility to arange with your landlord when and where you can pick up your key.

You should have received the signed leasing contract before your arrival, and you should also already have paid the deposit and the first months' rent. If this is not the case please contact your landlord immediately.

Immediately after moving in please complete the moving in checklist in collaboration with the person who holds the lease.

Any problems related to the lease should be addressed to the person holding the lease.

Insurance

The International Centre strongly recommends that you take out home contents insurance that will cover your loss in case of burglary, fire etc. Aarhus University does not cover any losses.
