General information

Scholarship period

Scholarships are tenable during the academic year. The autumn term begins on September 1st, the spring term on February 1st.

For bachelor’s and master’s students, the study period must be of minimum one semester (5 months) and of a maximum of 2 semesters (10 months).

For Ph.D. students, the study period must be of minimum 3 months and of a maximum of 12 months.

With respect to residence permits and/or visa, we recommend that accepted applicants contact the Danish diplomatic representation in their home country well in advance of their entry into Denmark.

Scholarship amount

Scholarships for bachelor's students in Danish language and literature and for master's and Ph.D students include free tuition and a monthly stipend of DKK 5,000.  Scholarship periods lasting more than 3 months include health insurance. As a general rule, scholarships are tax-free in Denmark. However, as there are exceptions to this rule, scholarship recipients should contact local tax authorities for an individual assessment.

Please note that living expenses in Denmark are high, and that the scholarship should be considered a supplement only.

Danish Government Scholarships are for one person only. Additional amounts for accompanying family members are not available.

Language of instruction

Danish is the normal language of instruction at institutions of higher education in Denmark, but more and more institutions offer courses in English or in another foreign language or have special arrangements for non-Danish students.

Further information on courses in other languages must be obtained directly from institutions.
