Dale T. Mortensen Building

Aarhus University is working to strengthen its position as a leading international university.
As a link in this process, the Dale T. Mortensen Building has been made the central hub
for all international and PhD activities as of 1 February 2011.

The building, which is named after Aarhus University’s 2010 Nobel Laureate in Economic
Sciences, will help the university reach a number of the goals set out in its internationalisation
strategy. For example, the new building will allow AU to offer an even more professional reception
service for the increasing number of students and researchers coming to Aarhus University from
abroad.

For many international employees and students, the Dale T. Mortensen Building will become
their point of access to Aarhus University – both when it comes to practical aspects such as
accommodation and introductory courses, as well as in connection with international seminars
and conferences.

As described in the university’s 2009–2013 internationalisation strategy, Aarhus University
aspires to create a dynamic academic and social environment for young research talent .
The Dale T. Mortensen Building is an important step in that direction.

The PhD House

In addition, the facility offers a professional and social meeting place for PhD students from
Denmark and abroad. The new PhD House includes conference facilities for PhD courses in
transferable skills and a café where young Aarhus University researchers and international
scholars can meet to exchange ideas and socialise.

The building also contains the IC Dormitory, which offers introductory housing for newly arrived
PhD students from abroad. This affordable, conveniently located accommodation will help make
AU even more attractive to international researcher talent.

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!

Take a short cut

Under the HOT KEY at the top right, you can find links to the most frequently used content on the website, as well as the two new universes for staff and students.

Where can I find it?

Use the new mega dropdowns to get an overview of the website’s content. They open when you run your mouse over the navigation at the top.
