News from the University History Committee
The University History Committee can now present on its website a silent film from the inauguration of Aarhus University’s first building 75 years ago.
On 11 September 2008, it is 80 years since university education in Jutland began activities, and on the same day, it is 75 years since King Christian X opened the first university building in what was to become the University Park. A film version of the latter event is now available on the committee’s website:
http://www.au.dk/uhu/showroom/galleri/begivenheder/filmoptagelsefra11.september1933.
At the same time, the University History Committee can present its annual report for 2007 (in Danish only): http://www.au.dk/uhu/aarsberetninger-detaljerede/2007.
If you have any questions for the University History Committee, you are welcome to contact Palle Lykke on +458942 2349, or send an e-mail to pl@adm.au.dk.
CAMPUS online
Don’t despair if you did not get round to reading the paper version of CAMPUS, because CAMPUS is now launching a new website. There will be a direct link to the most important articles in each number, just as you will be able to sign up for the newsletter.
There are loads of exciting events going on at the university, and our talented photographers often have numerous photos that we are unable to print in the paper. We will therefore introduce photo series on the new website, as well as so-called soundslides of selected events and arrangements at the university. Click on www.au.dk/campus (in Danish only).

International Help Desk opened
On 1 August, the International Help Desk (IHD) opened at Aarhus University. IHD is a service office for international PhD students, where they can get practical and administrative help with solving any problems they might run into in connection with their studies and work as newcomers to the Aarhus University and living in Denmark. IHD is open for personal service twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, students and other people with an interest in the conditions that apply to international PhD students arriving here can search for information on the IHD website at www.au.dk/ihd. This website will be launched on 1 October, but is already accessible with the most important information about IHD. From 1 October, there will also be a monthly newsletter in English, targeting international PhD students.
IHD is an implementation of part of the internationalisation strategy at Aarhus University, and the service office works closely with the municipality and the business community to create the best possible conditions for international PhD students at Aarhus University.
IHD provides service for all nine main academic areas at the university (six faculties, two university schools and the National Environmental Research Institute). University employees and international PhD students can get help with general questions that apply to all the university’s nine main academic areas. However, these services are limited in terms of geography, and are currently only available for students studying and working at AU8000C (Aarhus).
IHD provides assistance in the following areas:
- Residence and work permits
- Social conditions (such as tax, health insurance, CPR numbers)
- Accommodation (only AU8000C)
- Danish courses (only AU8000C)
- Cultural activities and sport
IHD also collaborates with International Community within the framework of Erhverv Aarhus on further developing the service to the international PhD students in Aarhus. This applies to services in the following areas: guaranteed accommodation, Danish lessons, work for partners/spouses, education for accompanying children (0–18 years) and assistance in municipal/relevant offices. In the long run, this service will help both students and their families to feel welcome in Aarhus, and will make Aarhus a truly international university city.
The office is open twice a week for enquiries in person or by phone.
Opening hours: Tuesday and Thursday 10–16
