Strong field of applicants for the four new positions as deans at Aarhus University

Press releases 2010

Thirty-one applicants – approximately a third of whom come from abroad – have applied for the new positions as deans at Aarhus University.
The field of applicants is evenly distributed among the four new main academic areas, which become effective in early 2011 as a result of the academic development process at Aarhus University.

Aarhus Faculty of Arts (Kulturvidenskab): eight applicants.
Aarhus Faculty of Science and Technology (Naturvidenskab og Teknologi): eight applicants.
Aarhus Faculty of Health Sciences (Sundhedsvidenskab): seven applicants.
Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences (Erhverv og Samfundsvidenskab): eight applicants.

The deans are expected to take up their positions on 1 January 2011, and each one will have overall responsibility for the academic and administrative leadership of a main academic area. At the same time, each dean will assume partial responsibility for the total leadership of Aarhus University as a member of the senior management team. In this capacity, the dean will be independently responsible for one of the university’s strategic focus areas (research, talent development, education and knowledge transfer, as well as the health sciences via Aarhus University Hospital).

“I’m very satisfied with the field of applicants, which includes very strong candidates from both Denmark and abroad. Now we’ll get started on a thorough selection procedure along with both the advisory committee and the appointment committee. I’m sure that Aarhus University will get four outstanding deans,” says Rector Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen.
