Photo competition
Freshman’s Week at Aarhus University
Hundreds of photos were submitted to the ‘best Freshman’s Week photo’ competition.
The winner of the contest – and a laptop computer valued at 6000 kroner – was Erik Jakobsen, a student of nanotechnology at Aarhus University who describes himself as an enthusiastic amateur photographer.
“It’s really cool to be recognised for my work and to hear that someone likes my photography,” Erik says. Our winner has been a tutor himself, and shot the photo of the fallen panda bear in connexion with new student orientation in 2008.
The photo was taken with a Nikon D-80.
About the competition
The theme of the competition was the unique atmosphere of Freshman’s Week, during which new students are introduced to university life for the first time. Each participant could submit up to ten different images to the contest, which was open to all students at Aarhus University. The second place winner received tickets to an AGF home match.
Rasmus Stensgaard, information officer at Aarhus University, was one of the judges in the competition. He explains that the image of the fallen panda won because there was just something unforgettable about it.
“We kept going back to the panda image every time we started discussing the photos: it captures the spirit of orientation in a really fun way – even though it might be a little on the quirky side,” he explains.
