Admission for exchange students

Courses with available seats will reopen for applications 1st to 7th May 2017.

Students applying for AU Summer University courses through a bilateral exchange agreement must apply by using the online application system.

Requirements

  • You must be enrolled in a university programme at the time of the AU Summer University.
  • Your university must have a bilateral exchange agreement with Aarhus University (preferably within the same academic area as the course(s) you wish to join). If you have any doubts regarding this, you can contact your international office or send an email to summeruniversity@au.dk
  • The international office at your home university must issue an official letter of nomination for exchange. Only the international office at your home university can issue this letter. Please note that recommendations etc. from professors will not be accepted.
  • The nomination must be approved by the receiving department at Aarhus University (this can only happen once you have submitted a complete application meeting all requirements).
  • If you are applying for admission to AU Summer University courses at Master level, you must hold a Bachelor's degree (Or as a minimum 180 ECTS in your study programme) by the time of application deadline.

Documentation

  • A copy of your passport (EU citizens can also use ID cards) 
  • Applicants for bachelor's courses: a transcript showing the courses of your current studies.
  • Applicants for master's courses: your Bachelor's degree diploma including transcript of records and a transcript of records showing the courses (and any results) of your current studies
  • An official letter of nomination for exchange from your international office at your home university.

Please note that we need to have all the required documents before March 15th in order to process your application. In late April you will receive information on whether or not you have been accepted.

Applications open Thursday 1 December 2016 and close Wednesday 15 March 2017.

FAQ for exchange students

I don't know if my university has a bilateral agreement with you. How do I find out?

If you send an email to summeruniversity@au.dk, we will be happy to check our database. You will still have to contact the international office at your home university in order to get an official nomination for exchange.

What is a nomination for exchange?

The form of a nomination is flexible; however a nomination from the international office at your home university will include a statement that they wish to nominate you for exchange at AU Summer University. Please contact the international office at your home university for more information on how to obtain a nomination for exhange at AU Summer University.

Could my teacher/lecturer/instructor nominate me?

No, only your international office can nominate you for exchange at AU Summer University.

Will I automatically be accepted as an exchange student if I have a nomination?

No, your nomination must also be accepted by the receiving department/academic area at Aarhus University. Once you have submitted a complete applicaiton AU Summer University will contact the receiving department for final approval of the nomination.

What happens if my nomination is not approved?

You could ask to have your applicant status changed to free-mover and pay tuition fee, if applicable. Please note that you will have to document your English language proficiency when applying as a free-mover student. Find more information on applying as a free-mover student here.

There is no bilateral agreement between my university and Aarhus University. What can I do?

I am not sure that I will receive my nomination/other documentation before the deadline (15 March). Can I still apply?

You can submit your application in the application system, uploading an empty document instead of your missing documentation (please make a note in the comments that you will be providing the documentation at a later stage). When we check the documents in your application, we will set your application to "incomplete". This will re-open your access to the application allowing you to upload your final documentation when you have it. Also, remember to resubmit your application once you have uploaded the final documentation.

Please note that we cannot guarantee to take any documentation into consideration that is received later than March 15th.

 

My university uses another kind of credit system than ECTS - how do I know if I have what's equivalent to 180 ECTS?

Generally speaking, 180 ECTS is equivalent to three years of full-time studies. You can find guidelines made by the Danish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher education here. If your country is not on the list, we will do an individual assesment on your documentation once we receive your application.
