FAQ

Are the courses first come - first served?/How are the seats allocated?

No! None of the courses are first come first served.

Unless otherwise announced in the course description found in the course catalogue, seats in any given course will be distributed to the following groups in descending order:

·         Aarhus University students from primary program or related education (see course catalogue)

·         Aarhus University students from any other study program

·         Students from other Danish universities applying to take the course as a credit module as well as students  nominated through an exchange agreement or other partnership agreement

·         Free movers and other Danish applicants (Tomplads)

Within these groups the seats will distributed as described in the course description.

This also means that technically it does not matter if you apply by december 1st of March 15th as long as you apply within the deadline March 15th at 23.59.

Can I change/cancel my registration?

You are free to change and cancel your stads registrations as long as the registration is still open in stads. After the deadline March 15th it is only possible to cancel/change a course registration according to the rules at your board of studies, which are the same rules as for semester courses.

Is it possible to take a course and not have the ECTS inserted into my study programme?

No, it is unfortunately not possible to take a course as extra-curricular activity. This is also why you can only register for a course if you have the space in your study programme and within the group of courses that the course belongs to.

My stads registration is rejected, what should I do?

This is most likely due to the fact that you don’t have enough space in your study programme for the course you are trying to register for. But please send us an e-mail at summeruniversity@au.dk then we will check it for you and guide you to what you can do.

I can’t find the course I am interested in in stads?

First of all you need to check if the course you are interested in, is in fact offered by your study programme, if not, you cannot find the course in stads but must apply via our application system.

Remember that in this case the course needs to be pre-approved by your board if studies before you can be registered for a course not offered by your study programme.

What if I want to apply for a course offered by my own study programme and a course that is pre-approved?

In that case you have to make two different applications. One in stads for the course offered by your own study programme and one in our application system, for the one you have gotten pre-approved.

Can I take a master level Summer University course before I start my master’s degree?

If you are a bachelor student who graduates this summer and will start on your master degree right after it is a possibility to take a master course during the summer, before you actually start your degree, to get a head start on your master degree.

In order to be able to do it you will however need a temporary/early enrollment from the board of studies, usually this requires that you have legal right of admission to the master degree you are applying for.

So, the first step is to apply for an early enrollment via. The mit.au.dk exemption from. Once you have it you can apply for the courses via our application system from May 1st - May 5th. Remember to upload the exemption for early enrollment to your application.

Guide to self-service registration forms BSc and MSc students

You can take a maximum of 20 ects points at Summer University, but only one course per term. Each term has its own registration form. You can prioritize up to two courses in each term. Remember to check for important notifications for some courses in the column "info" in the self-service.

How to apply for one course: Prioritize minimum one and maximum three courses in one term, or add a 1st priority in one term and a 2nd or 3rd priority in another term (by using both forms).

How to apply for two courses: Add minimum one 1st priority in each term, by using both forms.

Adding a first priority in each term means that you want to take two courses and we will automatically sign you up for two courses, so do not do this unless you want two courses!

FAQ BSS registration forms

Why can I not prioritize more than 3 courses in each term, I desperately need one course because I am going on an internship/exchange!?

Don’t worry! We will contact you by the end of April if you don’t get any of your two priorities, with a list of vacant courses you can then choose from. We have never experienced that an MSc or BSc student has not been able to take the wanted amount of ECTS points at Summer University and by far the most students are allocated their first or second priority.

Okay then, but just to be sure to get a course I will add three priorities in each term, this way I technically have six priorities and will get a course either way!?

No, this will not be a smart solution if you only need one course. If you have more than one first priority we will automatically assume that this is because you need two courses and we will then enroll you in two courses. Once enrolled in a course you will need to apply for an exemption from the study board, which can take several weeks and a heavy paper workload, in order to be able to cancel your registration for the course you don’t need.

My first priority is in one term, but my second/third priority is in another term, what do I do?

No problem! The system can handle that. Just apply for your 1st priority by using the correct form for the term and then go to the next form and add your 2nd or 3rd priority (without stating a 1st priority in the same term as your 2nd priority).

Is it first come-first served?

No, none of the MSc/BSc courses are first-come-first served. You can read how seats for specific courses are allocated in the course catalogue.

Can I change/cancel my registration?

You can change or cancel your course choice as long as the registration form is open. It will be open from December 1st – March 15th. After this date you won’t be able to change your course choice and, if allocated a course, you can only de-register as per the same rules that apply to regular semester courses (check your study portal if in doubt about the rules).
