Welcome to AU Summer University 

On your very first day at Aarhus University we will welcome you with practical information and a tour in the beautiful University Park, so you can get to know your way around campus.

The event takes place 10am-12am and 2pm - 4pm July 2, July 16, and July 30.

 

Aarhus City Safari

As a newly-arrived in Aarhus we recommend this guided tour through the local jungle of attractions and secret spots. On the tour you will get a great introduction to the city and hear about the history of Aarhus. We will end the trip in the city hall tower, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire city.

The event takes place 4pm - 6pm July 3, July 17, and July 31.

 

All-day trip to Djurs Sommerland

In Djurs Sommerland, which is an amusement park at the same size as 65 soccer fields, you will find more than 60 exciting attractions. These include Europe's biggest water coaster and also Denmark's biggest and fastest roller coaster, which was elected the world's sixth best roller coaster in 2010. Get ready for a whole day of fun with your new friends, where you can both go swimming in the large aqua park or ride the roller coasters again and again and...!

The event takes place 9am - 8pm July 8 and August 5.

 

Theme Denmark: Learn Danish

 This entertaining evening you will get to learn the most important (And impossible!) Danish words and sentences and try old-fashioned Danish folk dance. To shape your tongue for pronouncing æ's, ø's, and å's we will serve a traditional Danish dinner as well.

The event takes place 5pm July 6 and August 3.

 

Aarhus by Night

This night we will give you a taste of some of the best a night out in Aarhus can offer. First we will dine together at a restaurant downtown. Hereafter our local quiz master has put together yet another of his mind twisting pub quizzes. To complete the evening we will go and have a drink or two at the cafés by the riverside.

The event takes place 7 pm July 13, July 27, and August 10.

 

Laser Game

There is no better way to connect with new friends than by shooting them! This night you will get the opportunity, when you battle against the other team in the laser game arena.

The event takes place 5pm - 7 pm July 10 and August 7.

 

All-day Canoing Trip to the Silkeborg Lakes

This day you can experience the wonderful landscapes of the Silkeborg lakes as we go canoeing down the Gudenåen, one of the most beautiful Danish rivers. No prior experience is required so "paddle up" and join us for a scenic adventure and a good work out.

The event takes place 9am - 8pm July 15 and August 12.

 

Theme Denmark: Danish Culture Night

This night is your chance to gain a greater knowledge about Denmark, the Danes and Danish culture. But do not worry – we will not give you a boring lecture, but of course widen your horizon in an entertaining way, so besides a presentation about Denmark this night may include Danish songs, dancing or quizzes.

The event takes place 5 pm July 19 and August 16.

 

All-day trip to Odense

Odense is Denmark’s third largest city and also the hometown of the world famous author Hans Christian Andersen, who has written fairytales like The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Snow Queen and many, many others. This day we will visit H. C. Andersen’s childhood home which is a museum today. Afterwards we will go to the Funen Village, an open air museum with a complete recreation of a Danish village around the 1850s, where we will get a guided tour.

The event takes place 8am - 8pm July 21 and August 19.

 

Movie night 

Danish moviemaking has been awarded with both Palme d'Or at Cannes, Baftas in London, Golden Globes and Oscars in Hollywood. This evening we will present one of the Danish award-winning movies for you.

The event takes place 8pm July 24 and August 21.

 

Theme Denmark: Visit to ARoS Art Museum

The new symbol of Aarhus, the permanent work of art called 'Your Rainbow Panorama', is placed on top of ARoS Art Museum. From the rainbow you can get a panoramic view of the city in all the colours of the rainbow. Besides the rainbow ARoS also offers both collections of Danish art, contemporary art, and exciting, international exhibitions. This day we will get a guided tour at the museum.

The event takes place 3pm August 22.

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!

Use the new mega dropdowns to get an overview of the website’s content. They open when you run your mouse over the navigation at the top.
