In September 2011 the First Edition of Brazilian Days were celebrated at Aarhus University. Over the course of two days we presented an exciting program with cultural activities, and brought together researchers and professors from all academic fields at AU who have worked with areas related to Brazil.
Since the first edition of Brazilian Days, we had the opportunity to share experiences, problems and solutions regarding academic collaboration with Brazilian partners. Currently, Brazilian organizations are initiating comprehensive projects to promote research collaboration with foreign universities. Simultaneously, the Danish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education is focusing on establishing stronger ties between Danish and Brazilian research institutions.
In this light the following topics on how to develop and strengthen our connections will be highlighted during the second Brazilian Days at Aarhus University:
- How to approach research institutions in Brazil?
- The importance of establishing personal contacts with Brazilian professors.
- The importance of "Curriculum Lattes" (the Brazilian version of our PURE).
- Which is the best way for European researches to approach the Brazilian academic community?
- The necessity of having more Brazilian academic papers and articles translated into English and even Danish - in order to make the access to those texts easier.
- Possible international and interdisciplinary research projects.
- How important is it to speak Portuguese?
- The difference between Masters and PhD programs in Brazil and in Denmark.
- The investments and support that the Brazilian Government offers to researchers.
In order to address these issues and develop new ideas, we would like to invite you to the Brazilian Days 2 – 2012. I collaboration with AU Research and Talent, International Centre, we are hosting a roundtable discussion on how to create sustainability in Danish-Brazilian research collaboration.
Guests from Brazilian universities and the Brazilian Embassy will contribute to the discussions – both during the roundtable and with workshops.
The roundtable and workshops will take place on Friday 21 September at 10.00 in Richard Mortensen Stuen, Bygning 1422 - Studenternes Hus, Fredrik Nielsens Vej.
Lunch will be served and all participants are invited to a networking reception following the discussions at 15.00 (Preben Hornung Stuen).
We are happy to welcome you at this event and we hope this can be an opportunity for you to reinforce your academic relations with Brazil. The event is open to all interested, but we ask that you please send an email to Peter Damgaard Kristensen pdk@adm.au.dk, International Advisor, AU Research and Talent with your name and affiliation if you would like to participate in the roundtable.
Like last year the Brazilian Days will also encompass an interesting cultural program celebrating the centenary of Jorge Amado, one of the most important Brazilians writers.
Guest lecturers from Toulouse University and Rio de Janeiro State University will give lectures on Jorge Amado’s work, life and music, and films inspired by his work will be shown. See programme below.
