Academic Technician at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University: Organic Synthesis 936532

The Department of Chemistry and the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) are seeking applications for an academic position (AC-TAP), which includes scientific, administrative, as well as teaching duties in the area of organic synthesis. The position is affiliated with the Carbon Dioxide Activation Center (CADIAC), which is a center of excellence financed by the Danish Research Foundation. The position is temporary for two years with possibility for extension, and the intended start date is February 1st, 2018, or as soon as possible.

The candidate is expected to contribute to:
•    instruct students in organic and organometallic chemical synthesis
•    participate in the synthesis of organic compounds and transition metal complexes necessary for the research activities in the “Organic Synthesis Lab” within CADIAC at the Department of Chemistry, housed by the iNANO Center
•    Maintenance of HPLC equipment and GC equipment within CADIAC, including assisting users, specifically students at all levels.
•    General maintenance of standard equipment in the synthetic organic chemistry laboratories.
•    the maintenance of glovebox and other inert synthesis facilities
•    Support of other research groups affiliated with CADIAC
•    participation in teaching of laboratory courses in chemistry
•    various duties related to the Department of Chemistry and iNANO

The candidate will be a part of a team, which supports research in organic synthesis and its applications in chemistry, and which partly shares some of the daily duties. During the remaining lifetime of CADIAC, the position is primarily within the center. However, upon termination of CADIAC the candidate will continue to support organic synthesis broadly at the Department of Chemistry and iNANO as a member of this team.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and a good technical understanding of how to operate advanced laboratory equipment. We seek a candidate with experience in some of the most used techniques for organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry, and characterization including MS, GC and NMR.  Experience in working with glovebox and under inert conditions is an advantage. In addition to this, the candidate must have experience with, or interest in learning, maintenance of the equipment used on a daily basis in the organic laboratories. The candidate must have a MSc or PhD degree in chemistry, medicinal chemistry or chemical engineering.
