20% Postdoctoral position 1007669

The Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, Health, invites applicants for a part time (20%) position as postdoc from 1 January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 3-year fixed-term employment and should be combined with a clinical position at a hospital in Region Midt.

Research area

The aim of this position is to strengthen research within flow cytometry at the Department of Biomedicine, and to develop and implement novel applications with special focus on interdisciplinary/translational applicability of the techniques.

Moreover, the applicant is expected to develop and design new applications for flow cytometry with special focus on identification and biological characterization of extracellular vesicles in relation to ongoing translational research projects in immuno-oncology and hematology. Thus, the applicant is expected to collaborate with scientific groups at the Departments of Hematology and Clinical Biochemistry, Aarhus University Hospital.

The successful applicant is expected to contribute to and collaborate with the Aarhus University flow cytometry Core Facility on technical research projects. Thus, the applicant must demonstrate a strong theoretical foundation and practical experience in the flow cytometry methodology.

The applicant is expected to take part in teaching flow cytometry at different levels including students at Medicine and Molecular Medicine. Moreover, the position involves taking part in planning and educating at the PhD course in basic flow cytometry at Aarhus University.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a medical degree (MD) and a PhD degree and moreover demonstrate:

• Theoretical and practical experience in advanced flow cytometry
• A sound research profile within the area of hemato-immunology using the flow cytometry technology
• Teaching experience within flow cytometry/immunology

Applicants who also document the following will be preferred:

• Experience of participation in national and international research networks and meetings on flow cytometry
• Experience in supervision of students working with flow cytometry
• Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations as well as interdisciplinary research
• Ability to recruit external foundation

The Department

The Department of Biomedicine is part of the Faculty of Health, Aarhus University, and employs some 450 people and covers a range of research areas. The Department has an international vibrant research environment where English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The Department contributes to the bachelor’s degree programs in medicine, molecular medicine, odontology and the master's degree programs in biomedical engineering and medical chemistry. Modern laboratory facilities with associated support, core and animal facilities provide the framework for our research. Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
