Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor in Computer Science

One or more positions as tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor are available at the Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University (www.cs.au.dk) starting summer, 2017.

The department has research groups within "Algorithms and Data Structures”, "Data-Intensive Systems", “Cryptography and Security", "Mathematical Computer Science", "Logic and Semantics", "Ubiquitous Computing and Interaction", "Computer-Mediated Activity", "Use, Design and Innovation", and "Programming Languages”. Moreover, we wish to build competencies within Machine Learning and Systems Security.

Applicants within the areas of "Data-Intensive systems", "Algorithms and Data Structures", "Machine Learning", and "Systems Security" are of special interest, but applicants within other research areas are also very welcome.

Applicants for tenure-track positions are expected to have a PhD and research experience corresponding to a couple of years as postdoc or similar. Applicants must document a promising record of original research and an aptitude for teaching.

Applicants for associate professor positions are expected to have research experience from several years as assistant professor or similar. Applicants must document a strong record of original research and have teaching experience at undergraduate/graduate level.

The department has a staff of approximately 125 people including 24 full and associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 25 postdocs and 50 PhD students. The number of students is approximately 1,000.

About the Tenure Track Program:

Aarhus University offers talented scientists an attractive career perspective via the Tenure Track Program. Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of 6 years with the prospect of a performance-based advancement to a tenured position as Associate Professor. As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Program, the University carries out a mid-term evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. If the final review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aarhus University.

Application procedure
Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
