Postdoc position in Characterization of liposomal drug formulations by scattering methods 889776

A postdoctoral position is available at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) at Aarhus University. The position is available from 1 April 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of one-year.

In case further external funding is secured within the academic area the candidate is assessed obviously qualified for, an extension is possible for up to a maximum total employment on the project for 2 years and 8 months.

The position is a part of the new Horizon 2020 Framework Programme project “Smart-4-Fabry” (Smart multifunctional GLA-nanoformulation), funded under the action 'H2020-EU.2.1.2. - INDUSTRIAL LEADERSHIP - Leadership in enabling and industrial technologies – Nanotechnologies'.

The research of Smart-4-Fabry project concerns development of drug delivery systems based on liposomes for treatment of Fabry disease. Advanced formulation and characterization techniques will be used for achieving excellent quality control over the assembly of the different molecular components of a new liposomal nano-formulation which contains the α-Galactosidase A (GLA) enzyme as the active component. Fabry disease belongs to a group of lysosomal storage disorders (LSD) diseases that currently lack a definitive cure. In the case of Fabry LSD Disease, the deficiency in GLA activity results in the cellular accumulation of neutral glycosphingolipids, leading to widespread blood vessel disorder with particular detriment to the kidneys, heart and nerve system.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for structural characterization of the liposomal drug delivery systems, including assessment of the stability. The drug formulations will be produced at Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (CSIC)-CIBER-BBN, Spain, and the structural characterization will be done mainly at iNANO at Aarhus University, Denmark, using in-house small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), and dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS, respectively). Some development of analysis methods and inclusion and comparison of data from Molecular Dynamics simulation is expected.

Therefore candidates with experience in scattering methods will be preferred.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Nanoscience or related topics.

The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) is a major research and education center based at Aarhus University. iNANO undertakes interdisciplinary research involving scientists from relevant areas in physics, chemistry, molecular biology, biology, engineering, and medicine. iNANO offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with many industrial, national and international collaborators

The place of work is Gustav Wieds Vej 14, 8000 Aarhus C, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

For further information please contact prof. Jan Skov Pedersen (jsp@chem.au.dk) +4587155921, iNANO, Aarhus University. Application procedure Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process. Formalities and salary range Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Guidelines for applicants can be found here. Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities. (in Danish). Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
