Three-year postdoc position in pig nutrition 914313

Aarhus University invites applications for a postdoc position in pig nutrition at the Department of Animal Sciences. The position is funded by the InnovationFund Denmark and the Velux Fund, and is for three years. The starting date is 1 August 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Working area
We seek a candidate with a strong background in pig nutrition. This postdoc project will focus on energy, protein and minerals in pig nutrition. Energy and protein intake of sows in an organic production system will be studied to evaluate how season and grass intake affects the energy and protein balances of gestating and lactating sows. The postdoc project will also comprise studies on nutrient digestion, nutrient metabolism, quantification of milk yield, and recording of physical activity. The postdoc project will also comprise studies on the effect of glyphosate on the intestine and on mineral status of the animals. The chosen candidate is further expected to join and develop ongoing research within the research group. The candidate is expected to take part in teaching and supervision of students at the BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

• A PhD in animal science, biology, or similar.
• A good track record of publication. 
• Experience with some of the following techniques: Digestion of nutrients using marker techniques and/or Ussing chambers, absorption and metabolism of nutrients, balance trials, factorial calculations of nutrient balances, utilization of nutrients and quantification of milk yield and mobilization of sows. 
• Good skills in communication of research results internationally as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Experience in supervising students and teaching at a high academic level will also be a merit.

The place of work is Blichers Allé 20, DK-8830 Tjele, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments. Teaching activities are primarily conducted at AU-Campus, 8000 Aarhus.

Application procedure
Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
