1-year Assistant Professor position 928899

A 1-year assistant professor position is available at the Department of Biomedicine, Health, Aarhus University, Denmark.

Research area and project description

The research is focusing on the role of Sortilins and neurotrophic signaling in pain and regenerative processes following peripheral nerve injury. We combine surgical procedures, molecular biology, genetics, imaging and behavioral approaches to investigate effects of injury to peripheral nerves in the normal nervous system, as well as in states of inflammation and diabetes.

The overall aim of the project is to understand the mechanisms underlying development of various neuropathies based on mouse models involving a number of specific microsurgical techniques and behavioral assays. The area in focus is the spinal cord although other areas of the nervous system may be included. It is required that the candidate has thorough up-to-date knowledge about pain mechanisms in the nervous system and well-developed neurosurgical skills.

Qualifications and specific competences

We seek a specialized, enthusiastic and highly motivated person to perform independent research projects and to contribute actively to ongoing interdisciplinary research projects. The candidate is expected to work independently and to participate in supervising younger students on a daily basis. In addition, the position includes involvement in a number of collaborations simultaneously. The position will involve teaching as agreed upon with the Department of Biomedicine (in Danish) as well as being in charge of the groups mouse breeding subdivision.

The candidate for the position must

• hold a PhD degree in the field of neuroscience and have postdoctoral training
• be experienced in microsurgery on mice (experience with the techniques spared nerve injury (SNI) and chronic constriction injury (CCI) would be a merit)
• be experienced in behavior assessment of mice (experience with the technique von Frey test would be a merit)
• have thorough training in various biochemical techniques.
• have fundamental knowledge about the Sortilins receptor family and neurotrophic factors.
• have experience in supervising and teaching

Further information can be requested from associate professor Christian B. Vægter by e-mail cv@biomed.au.dk (please note that applications cannot be sent to this e-mail address - please see section on application below).

Place of employment and place of work
