The Department of Plastic and Breast Surgery
The Department of Plastic and Breast Surgery consists of two sections i.e. plastic surgery and breast surgery, which we in 2018 will merge at the new University Hospital. The Department of Plastic Surgery is a tertiary referral center for most aspects of plastic surgery in Central Denmark Region including:
• Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer
• Reconstructive and corrective breast surgery including congenital malformations as well as delayed and immediate breast reconstructions
• Congenital malformations including vascular malformations
• Reconstruction after soft-tissue loss including pressure ulcers and bariatric surgery
• Advanced microsurgical procedures in head and neck and lower extremity traumas 

The Department does not cover burns, hand surgery, and cleft lip and palate.

The Department has a budget of DKK 74 million and has 100 employees including 6 consultants, 3 junior-consultants, 7 residents in-training, 3 junior residents in addition to specialized nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. In 2016, the Department admitted 2,200 patients and carried out 22,000 outpatients consultations. The Department performed 4,500 surgeries on admission or outpatients. On a relevant basis, the Department takes part in or chairs multidisciplinary conferences to ensure patient treatment is fast and at a high international level. The Department and the Research Unit have several international collaborators in Great Britain, Belgium, Australia, and the United States.

The Department is in charge of the pre-graduate teaching of medical students as well as specialist postgraduate training in plastic surgery.

The position as clinical professor
The clinical professor will hold a split post consisting of 50 % clinical work and 50 % University related academic work and research. The functions are described in the agreement between Aarhus University and Central Denmark Region: “Aftale om professorer ved hospitalerne i Aarhus Universitetshospital – ansættelsesforhold, ansvar og opgaver”. This is an integrated and mutually binding collaboration between the University Hospital and the Faculty at every corresponding level of management. 

The clinical professor and the management of the Department of Plastic and Breast Surgery are jointly responsible for the clinical and scientific development of the Department of Plastic Surgery. The clinical professor will refer to the head of the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University, concerning University related matters. Regarding clinical matters, the professor collaborates directly with the management of the Department of Plastic Surgery.

We expect that the clinical professor
• Plans the pre-graduate teaching including examinations
• Conducts research according to his/her clinical profile at the department
• Directs the Research Unit in collaboration with the professor at the Breast Surgery Research Unit
• Facilitates a research environment for the specialist doctors, residents in training, post docs, PhD-students, and medical students
• Develops constructive national and international collaborations

Required qualifications

In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on the extent, quality and originality of the applicants body of international scientific publications, including contributions to further developing the subject area in question. Moreover, an assessment will be made of the applicants research management abilities.
