Postdoctoral position in the PERISCOPE research project 935281

The Department of Management at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project on strategic foresight for the marine industry.

The starting date is 1 January 2018 or subject to mutual agreement.

The research project
The research project will develop and apply novel strategic foresight methods to identify new business opportunities in the maritime industry in the North Sea Region. The consortia partners are local cluster organizations from the Netherlands, UK, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Germany, and strategic foresight specialist. Aarhus BSS will lead the strategic foresight and entrepreneurial discovery process. Aarhus BSS will also configure the online strategic foresight platform, which will facilitate the process and connect the international partners. The project is expected to make a significant contribution to Europe’s Blue Economy by reinforcing the knowledge base, identify and valorize innovation ideas, and open up a Blue Growth ecosystem to stimulate industry-driven action on concrete opportunities.
Job description

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the overall objectives of the project by being involved in developing the strategic foresight process, configuring the strategic foresight platform and developing workshop formats for cross-border collaboration. The candidate is also expected to contribute to desk research and expert interviews to identify and assess the most promising opportunities. The candidate will also contribute to publishing research results in form of research reports, academic papers contributing the strategic foresight research and academic papers on the maritime industry.

The position is research-oriented but may involve teaching assignments.


Candidates must hold a PhD relevant to the academic areas of the Department of Management, preferably within one or more of the following areas Strategy, Strategic Foresight, Scenario Planning, Innovation Management, Futures Research, Technology Management.

Preferably candidates will also have relevant prior experience in one or more of the following areas, but it is not a demand:
  • Scenario planning and strategic foresight
  • Maritime industry and related industries
  • Publishing on innovation management, strategic foresight, technology management, or scenario planning

Preferably candidates will also:
  • Have strong communication and facilitation skills (e.g. documented experience in running workshop with industry)
  • Be fluent in English, both oral and written.

The Department of Management is one of the six departments at Aarhus BSS, one of the four faculties at Aarhus University. Aarhus BSS unites the research fields of business and social sciences bringing them closer together to reflect the close relationship between society and the business community. Terms of employment
The appointment is in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State.
