The Danish School of Education, Department of Education Science, at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a professor MSO in career guidance. The abbreviation “MSO” stands for “with special responsibilities” in Danish. The position is available from 15 January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position
The successful applicant will be expected to strengthen the research activity and output of the Danish School of Education, as well as contributing to the high international profile of career guidance research at the school. Career guidance research is based at the research unit on guidance research, which combines elements from education science, social psychology, communication and educational theory. The successful applicant will be expected to further strengthen the unit’s international and interdisciplinary research collaboration in career guidance by integrating participatory and practice-based research methods. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange, and to provide academic leadership relating to research, education and academic development.

Research
Research in career guidance at Aarhus University has a pronounced and significant international profile and contributes to the establishment of a strong research network nationally and internationally. The successful applicant will be expected to take a leading role in developing the research portfolio and research environment in career guidance research through international collaboration and by applying for and obtaining external research funding.
The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to joint research initiatives across universities, university colleges in Denmark and Scandinavia and private and/or public organisations in terms of new research projects and external research funding.
Applicants must therefore be able to document original scientific production at the highest international level, as well as significant scholarly contributions to theoretical and thematic developments within career guidance research. Applicants are furthermore asked to state their visions for future developments in the field as well as documenting a solid track record in research leadership, international research funding, and international research cooperation.
It is of vital importance that the successful applicant takes part in the daily activities of the department as well as in teaching, supervision and assessment activities.

Education
The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the department’s teaching and supervision activities and to teach and supervise on the department’s Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programmes. The successful applicant will also be expected to be the driving force in developing new special areas of study or degree programmes within the field of education.

Talent development
The successful applicant will be expected to recruit, supervise and integrate PhD students in the research environment, as well as participating in the development and implementation of PhD courses on research in career guidance.

Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document prior experience and creativity within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications
Applicants must provide research plans and explain how they will meet the expectations of the professorship in terms of strengthening and developing research and teaching in career guidance.
 
Applicants must also be able to document:
• Academic publications at the highest international level, including research innovation in the field of career guidance
• Experience of active participation in international research collaboration
• Experience of research organisation, including the obtaining and administration of external funding in the field of career guidance
• Fieldwork experience, preferably with participatory approaches to research
• A strong network for research collaboration internationally
• A strong network for scientific and theoretical publication in the field of career guidance
• Strong teaching competences and experience of supervising at all levels
• Commitment to teaching development, the supervision of student projects, talent development, research management and the development of PhD courses.

Owing to the increasingly international nature of the degree programmes in question, applicants must be able to teach in English. If the successful applicant cannot speak Danish, he/she will be required to learn Danish within about two years.

Applicants with a comprehensive research profile within the field of career guidance will be preferred. Relevant areas of research could be: collective forms of guidance, career learning, and career guidance in communities.
