Professorship in the Danish History of Education 950326

The Danish School of Education, Department of Educational Sociology, Aarhus University invites applications for an ordinary professorship in the Danish history of education with emphasis on the institutional and/or intellectual developments related to specific institutions such as kindergarten, preschool, primary and lower secondary education, vocational education and training and/or higher education. The Danish history of education in a contemporary and interdisciplinary perspective should be seen as part of a larger social, cultural, political and international context. The professorship is a permanent position, starting on 1 March 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position
The professorship is being advertised with a view to appointing a professor with considerable international research qualifications in the field of the history of education with regard to social, cultural and political changes from a contemporary perspective. It is important that the successful applicant has experience of forming research networks in the area of educational studies. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in the broad range of subjects offered at the Danish School of Education. The successful applicant will also be expected to further the development of the research environment in the area of the history of education at the Danish School of Education. The applicant will teach on various degree programmes at the school with the aim of ensuring that the students acquire knowledge of and qualifications in taking a historical perspective on the development of education.

Research
The applicant must have extensive, thoroughly documented research experience at the highest level in the contemporary history of education. The successful applicant will be expected to develop new research networks with internal and external partners as well as applying for and obtaining external research funding. Applications must include a project plan for the initiatives the applicant intends to take within the research area. The plan should include a description of international (including Scandinavian) collaborations and outline a strategy for obtaining external research funding.

Teaching
The applicant is expected to be able to document teaching experience at the highest university level, and must be able to offer teaching and supervision in relevant courses and teaching activities within this subject field at all levels of the degree programmes at the Danish School of Education with a view to making historical perspectives on education relevant to the students.

Knowledge exchange
The successful applicant will be expected to share knowledge with the rest of society, involving (for instance) research collaboration with private- or public-sector companies and organisations or with civil society, as well as communicating knowledge to the general public.


Qualifications
The applicant must provide a research plan and explain how she/he intends to meet the expectations of the professorship in terms of strengthening and developing research and teaching in the field of the Danish history of education in a contemporary and interdisciplinary perspective.
 
The applicant must also be able to document that she/he:
• is an internationally recognized scholar within the field of the Danish history of education in a contemporary and interdisciplinary perspective
• has considerable international research qualifications in the field of the history of education with regard to social, cultural and political changes from a contemporary perspective
• has academic publications at the highest international level
• has experience of active participation in international research collaboration
• has skills in forming and securing funding for international research networks and ambitious research projects
• possesses high qualifications within teaching and supervision at all academic levels
• is committed to teaching development, supervision of student projects, talent development, research management and the development of PhD courses
• is able to teach in English – if the successful applicant cannot speak Danish, she/he will be required to learn Danish within about two years.
