Vacancy for a three-year position as Researcher in Aquatic Ecosystem and Eco-Hydrological Modelling 959200

Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University invites applications for a three-year Researcher position in Aquatic Ecosystem and Eco-Hydrological Modelling. We seek an innovative and cross-disciplinary researcher capable of strengthening the research within the interactive fields of catchment processes and freshwater ecology. The position is available from June 1 2018 or as soon as possible here after. The department seeks to recruit a candidate, who may become eligible for a permanent position as Senior Researcher.

The candidate’s research should focus on the development and application of numerical models for aquatic ecosystems. The research should include, but is not limited to, holistic modelling approaches to elucidate and quantify linkages between freshwater ecosystems, landscape processes and climate forcing. Documented experience with model applications across several climate zones and landscapes of the world is desirable, but not a prerequisite.

The Department of Bioscience is involved in the development of open source numerical models and support tools such as advanced interfaces, suitable for teaching, research and consultancy purposes. Candidates are expected to have some experience with scripting languages (preferably Python), as well as a track record of peer-reviewed publications relating to both aquatic ecosystem modelling and eco-hydrological modelling. The successful candidate must have a PhD in environmental engineering, quantitative freshwater ecology or a closely related field.

Department of Bioscience is organized in 18 different sections working within the areas of freshwater, marine and terrestrial science, wild life ecology, biodiversity, physiology and ecotoxicology. The position is in the Section of Lake Ecology, working within the fields of developing lake and runoff models to create various future scenarios such as climate scenarios, runoff scenarios for lakes and the derived effects hereof  or modelling of the effects of restoration initiatives on a lake system.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
